If you are a parent of a child with special needs, you have probably felt the weight of navigating school systems, deciphering acronyms, and advocating for your child in spaces that don’t always feel welcoming. You have probably asked yourself: Am I doing enough? Am I doing it right? You are not alone, and you don’t have to figure it all out by yourself.

That’s why we created Navigating the School Year: Fall Parent Information Session, a class designed to help you build stronger relationships with your child’s school, understand the special education process and the IEP, and foster self-advocacy and independence in your child.

Build a Relationship with the School That Works

This isn’t about being the “perfect” parent - it’s about being an informed, confident partner in your child’s education. We’ll explore:

  • How to communicate effectively with teachers and administrators

  • What to do when things feel tense or unclear

  • Ways to build trust and collaboration, even when you disagree

Because when schools and families work together, kids thrive.

Self-Advocacy and Independence: Planting the Seeds Early

Your child’s voice matters. Whether they’re learning to speak up in class or making choices about their learning, we’ll help you:

  • Support independence while honoring your child’s unique needs

  • Use everyday moments to build confidence and decision-making skills

This class isn’t just about paperwork - it’s about creating empowered parents and their children.

Demystifying the IEP: What You Really Need to Know

The Individualized Education Program (IEP) can feel like a maze of jargon and legalese. We’ll break it down into parent-friendly language:

  • What’s in an IEP and why it matters

  • How to prepare for meetings without feeling overwhelmed

  • What to do if you feel unheard or unsure

You’ll leave with tools, templates, and the confidence to show up as your child’s best advocate.

What Is Special Education, Really?

Let’s go beyond the labels. This session offers a clear, compassionate overview of:

  • How special education works in public schools

  • The laws that protect your child’s rights

  • What inclusion, accommodations, and modifications actually mean

Whether you are brand new to this world or looking to deepen your understanding, we’ve got you. This class is for you.

Why This Class Is Different

We don’t just teach - we listen. We honor your lived experience, your questions, and your hopes. This class is:

  • Emotionally supportive and judgment-free

  • Packed with actionable strategies and real-life examples

  • Designed by someone who’s been in the classroom and at the IEP table

You’ll walk away feeling informed, empowered, and connected.
